DLSE's Deputy Labor Commissioner IV (Regional Manager) exam is a joke, a disgrace, and another mirror to the division's magic
You can never win in a rigged game. The questions were deliberately easy so that anyone could pass. So what happens? Everyone, to my knowledge, has failed. Not only do these people (DLSE management) suck at preparing their qualified staff for this promotion, but they also suck at devising such simplistic, subjective questions for such a position. I don't know if the panel was developmentally disabled (meaning that they couldn't develop a proper DLC IV exam), but here are some questions they might was to consider for the next DLC IV exam; they are more honest, more appropriate to DLSE's real promotion system, and reflect the current day-to-day operations.
Q1-your division doesn't have a policy & procedures for anything, since each office does things their own way. What special office rules would you implement to screw over the taxpayer?
Q2-the Labor Commissioner wants you to conduct a secret investigation against a suspected blogger; what steps do you take to keep the Labor Commissioner off your ass?
Q3-if a DLC III gets drunk at a subordinate's house party, then how soon should the supervisor start taking aspirin for the hangover headache?
Q4-your Regional Manager (DLC IV) is about to retire; name all the ways to start sucking up to the bosses in order to get promoted to that vacancy?
Q5-one of your offices is complaining about not having safety glass barriers. What's the best way to keep them from bitching AND not to install the safety glass? Feel free to post comments and add your own questions that the DLSE could really use in the next exams....

Whoever wrote the comment "you're an idiot" on the prior posting sounds awfully like management. It has been verified that Bob Jones and Rupp reads the blog site on a daily basis so it's just a matter of who was the most pissed off when it was verified first hand that the Regional Manager oral interviews were a farce. Thanks to "wake up and smell the roses" comment, it has finally been verified what a farce and waste of everyones time these orals are. I would personally pick Rupp as the originator of the "you're an idiot" comment since he is so familiar with the word and was also on the panel.
Rumor has it that Jorge Gomez,Senior Santa Ana Office, did not make the Regional Managers list for the first time. Gomez has always been in the top (3)ranking. What the hell!! Does this mean that Jorge is now on the proverbial "Rupp Shit List". Poor Jorge, I hope he doesn't take it personally. Maybe a some therapy sessions and Rupp's retirement and he will be ready for the next Regional Manager exam.
I have to agree with comment number one. The "You're an idiot" comment does not sound like it's from rank and file. It sounds like management since the person who wrote it is indicating that he wants the person who spilt the beans on the Regional Manager exam to be caught and punished. I vote for Bob Jones as the person with the anonymous comment.
It inconceivable to me that our appointed Labor Commissioner, Bob Jones,is going to court next month in order to squash this blog site. If this blog site was full of lies and misconceptions, management would just laugh it off and ignore it. The fact is that this site has uncovered some very unsavory secrets that management thought were permanently hidden. Second of all, Bob Jones, who was appointed over a year ago,is required by law to be confirmed or replaced. Why is he still around after his appointed one year? It appears that Jones is the one that is in violation of any laws and procedures.
I CAN ANSWER (Q5)- HAVE OUTSIDE CONTRACTORS COME INTO THE SANTA ANA OFFICE AND MEASURE THE FRONT COUNTER AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. TELL THE SENIOR (JORGE GOMEZ)THAT PROGRESS IS BEING MADE AND IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME. IF THAT DOESN'T APPEASE THE EMPLOYEES THAT WORK IN THE OFFICE, THEN TELL THEM IT'S IN THE NEW BUDGET AND SCHWARTZENEGER HAS PROMISED HE WOULD'T VETO IT. THIS COULD TAKE MONTHS FOR THE EMPLOYEES TO FIGURE OUT IT JUST ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN. IF THE EMPLOYEES ARE GETTING REBELLOUS AND REFUSING TO WORK THE COUNTER WITHOUT A SECURITY SHIELD THEN REPLACE THEM WITH NEW EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS HAPPENING. I THINK I ACED THIS QUESTION AND I'M READY TO BE MANAGEMENT MATERIAL. I THINK RUPP WOULD LOVE MY ANSWER, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I can suggest a way for Bob Jones,Appointed Labor Commissioner to get rid of the blog site once and for all. Instead of spending all of the publics tax money on court fights with the blogger, just promote the guy. Fire Rupp and hire the Blogger as Regional Manager. You know he's not going to write about himself. Do I get some kind of award for this suggestion?
I come from DOSH and believe that DIR personnel unit is working with these bozos. Every exam that is given is flawed. I also heard complaints from our IT department on the exams given at their Department specifically to reward individuals for this CMS system you guys keep talking about.
